Thank-you for this. I think a lot of people need to read/see something a little better balanced that “Evil big bad Russia is beating up on Poor Defenseless Georgia”. South Ossetia was never even mentioned in a lot of the early things I read, although I tried to self educate on the situation. Thank-you for spelling it out for some of us.

Thank you so much for this. I don’t know much about the region, but your piece spells out the basics as well as–well, yeah, what is there to know? As you say: greedy amoral Machiavellians toast each other, nationalists beat their chests, and innocent people lose their limbs and loved ones and lives. That bit’s all too depressingly fucking familiar.
