June Sunset

Dusk comes gently here; the shadows creep

Like furtive lovers, all things to enfold
In arms of darkness. Luna watches bold

The leisurely seduction, so to keep
The rendezvous of twilight’s consummation.

Day lingers fondly at the door of night,
Constrained to leave, yet loath still to depart
This breathless union, the ebon art
Of nightfall’s soft beguiling; and my sight
Heedless will pursue its cryptic smiling.

Languorous waters lie in hills’ embrace.
At Zephyr’s touch they shiver and awake
To satin motion; and, his leave to take,
The dying sun bends down his burning face
To kiss the waves afire.
