Global Comment showcases independent journalists from around the world. With a focus on writing about arts, culture and creativity, we talk about current events, society and history through an arts and culture lens.
But we’re not talking about stuffy takes on arts and culture that readers can’t relate to. We want to talk about things like:
- – what your local food scene tells us about your city;
- – which young adult books every queer teen should read;
- – why you believe everyone should ignore Pride and Prejudice because Jane Austen’s best book is actually [insert your fave here];
- – what the street art in Gaza tells us about Palestinian resistance;
- – which six under-rated podcasts every film fan should be listening to;
- – which artists every feminist should be following on Instagram…
You get the idea.
Nobody needs another review of a tired, over-hyped artist that millions of words have already been written about. We do need fresh takes on arts, culture and creativity that tell us something new about the world.
Global Comment has six core verticals – Watch, Listen, Read, See, Taste, Place – and if you have a story to tell that could fit in any of these, we want to hear from you.
Can you share a different perspective on a topic we cover? If so, get in touch.
We have always believed that there is a great deal of writing talent that major publications are not tapping into. As the website where the world thinks out loud, we are thrilled to host many of these writers. Since 2000, Global Comment has been a one-stop web magazine for all readers looking for fresh, independent and thoughtful commentaries about the world around us, written by talented writers.
In 2024, we re-focused the magazine to its emphasis on arts, culture and creativity. We still talk about what’s going on in the world, as we always have, but now we do so through the lens of arts and culture. Whatever is going on, tell us the story through the prism of one of our six core verticals.
Social media
We are very proud of our social media content and would love it if you followed us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
Website policy
We always seek to credit images appropriately and go above and beyond the requirements of most stock photography websites.
When photographing something like street art, we endeavour to always credit the street artist as well as the photographer, however there are times when it is impossible to find out who created the original work. If you spot something we missed, we’d love it if you let us know.
At the same time, we recognise that there are times when street artists or other creators may not want to be identified. If this is the case and we have identified you, please get in touch and we are happy to anonymise your work.
