Podcast Showcase: meredith for real

Headphones

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to meredith for real,

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

A hybrid of society/culture and personal development. Not usually safe for work, always ADD friendly and short enough to fit your daily commute. Most guests are a paradox of some kind – like the atheist doctor who studied near death experiences for 50 years (episode 93).

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

It’s perfect for the person who is insatiably curious and cares about personal development, but finds themself hopping around a lot of different podcasts because their interests are so varied.

Want to learn about UFOs? I gottchu (ep 95). Want to hear about a woman who escaped a forced marriage? I gottchu (ep 48).

What made you start this podcast?

After almost two decades in sales and sales training, I was wanting to live in a more creative way, so I was attracted to the idea of making something unique.

Even though I’m an introvert, my favorite part of my sales appointments was meeting interesting people. People are so layered – they are never just one of anything. Just a mom. Just a lawyer. If you ask the right questions with genuine curiosity, you’ll find the paradoxes that exist.

A podcast seemed like a great platform to encourage curiosity over judgment, because it allowed people to “meet” people they might not otherwise get to, thus broadening their world view and strengthening their curiosity muscle.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

I’ve learned that not only can you imagine and RE-imagine your life in an infinite number of ways, there’s probably someone out there already doing it who’d love to tell you all about it.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

It’s been great! I love meeting my guests (it’s an elaborate way to make new friends). Anything related to technology has been a challenge, but the more I learn, the more I love it!

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

Episode 94 is one of my favorites. Yisrael Campbell is a stand-up comedian who was raised Irish Catholic in Philadelphia USA, converted to Orthodox Judaism and moved to Israel. We talked about identity and acceptance – self, community and  heavenly. It’s gold!

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

The Model Health Show is one of my favorites. The host, Shawn Stevenson, is one of the few people in the health and wellness space who can interview a guest on a subject without overtaking them as a “better expert.” I always feel motivated to up my wellness game after listening.

And for wanderlust, I love Get Lost Podcast hosted by Joe Sills. He interviews the people who make travel shows on the behind-the-scenes adventures while incorporating Foley-esk sounds effects, creating the perfect platform for mind travel. My favorite episodes are the ones with Josh Gates and Matthew McConaughey.
