Podcast Showcase: On the Brink with Andi Simon

Podcast

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to On the Brink with Andi Simon

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

On the Brink with Andi Simon was launched in 2017 when I published my award-winning book, “On the Brink: A Fresh Lens to Take Your Business to New Heights.”  The podcast is designed to help the listener get off the brink so they can see, feel and think in new ways.

As anthropologists, we believe that to innovate and thrive, people need to step out, observe, listen, and imagine what is possible.

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

On the Brink podcast

We have people from across the globe who email us their applause and their requests for favorite speakers. Our ideal listener is curious, contemplative, and reflective. They come from all walks of life, from CEOs of major companies, to middle managers, entrepreneurs, and stay-at-home moms.

I particularly like women listeners who are stuck or stalled and need a lift-off to sustain their growth.

What made you start this podcast?

After my book was published, I wanted to expand the conversation to help people take their observations and turn them into innovations.

The podcast as a medium was still in its infancy. My guests added great perspective to my own interests and helped me grow my audience, while empowering them with fresh ideas and new perspectives.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

Each individual has a story. I know how we, as humans, live our stories. Our guests share their own journeys through their stories, and in the process help our listeners better understand how to adjust their stories to pursue better lives in more purposeful ways.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

I learned early that the purpose of the podcast was to provide insights for others. As I developed my conversational style, I became more relaxed and engaged with the guest, and better able to take their ideas and insights and expand upon them for our audience’s benefit.

I have listened to other podcasts and been on them as well. What I like about what we have created is that it brings the listener into the conversation as if they are in the room with us.

I have a good team who helps with the audio engineering, the content writing, and the posting and promoting so I can play my role and they can play theirs.

Finally, a good podcast doesn’t sound like it is staged. It is just a great performance. I really don’t hate anything about the podcast.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

While we have almost 290 posted, I think they would find a wonderful mix if they began at 255: Nadia Bilchik—How To Master Communication In A Virtual World. I just love her vibrant style and her deep insights. But I think there are a host of them after that worth listening to. Here are two others to enjoy:

  • 278: Deborah Levine—How To Help Society Truly Become Inclusive?
  • 277: Johanna Zeilstra—Let’s All Build Companies That Make Gender Fair

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

Bonnie Marcus has Badass Women at Any Age which is great. Mind Body Business Podcast with Lisa and Devo is terrific. Wings of Inspired Business with Melinda Wittstock is excellent.
