Welcome to the next in our series of Podcast Showcases, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to Starts with Y.
1. Sum up your podcast in three sentences
On the “Starts with Y” podcast we start and end with “Y”. The “Y” in “YOUTH” who are making incredible impacts around the world and the “Y” the represents the “WHY” behind their stories. Our goal is to bring light to the importance of thinking about your own “Y” by highlighting stories of remarkable change-makers from across the globe.
2. Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?
Youth, educators and parents!
3. What made you start this podcast?
I wanted to find a platform that amplifies the voice of youth who are taking action and making positive impacts in their community. It was disheartening to learn that a platform like this did not exist so I decided to create a safe space for youth to showcase their incredible initiatives and inspire others along the way.
4. What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?
I have learnt about the importance of fostering young people’s passions and supporting them develop their sense of purpose in this world. Youth should be reminded that what they do and how they feel matter. Through the stories shared on “Starts with Y”, it is evident that youth truly have the potential to create change. In order to this however, we need to ensure we are providing appropriate tools and resources whilst encouraging them to believe in themselves and to dream big.
5. What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?
I have enjoyed the podcasting process. Connecting with guests, learning about their remarkable journey, supporting their causes and even the process of editing and turning our conversation into a story gives me an incredible sense of fulfillment and happiness.
6. If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?
I suggest starting with “Y your Heart” because Savanna’s story is one that has and continues to make impacts in the world. 14-year-old Savanna shares her experience building her organization “Happy Heart Advices” when she was only 7 years old. Today Savanna is an accomplished author and speaker as well as the CEO of her organization, Happy Heart Advices, that educates youth on the functions of the heart while getting them involved in fun, heart-pumping activities.
