Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to The Mindful Minute.
Sum up your podcast in three sentences
The Mindful Minute podcast is a bi-weekly show that offers an inspirational talk and 20-minute guided meditation focused on how to live our lives more mindfully, easily, and happily. My focus is introducing meditation in ways that are accessible to all of us. The show uses nature, literature, art, and pop culture to relate traditional meditation teachings to our modern, everyday lives.
Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?
My listeners tend to be people who are searching for a little bit more in their lives – more time, more energy, more joy, more wakefulness, more connection… The Mindful Minute is for people that want to incorporate meditation into their daily lives, and equally aren’t planning to do a 3-month retreat somewhere.
Parents, business owners, everyone who is juggling too much to do and not enough time – this show is for you.
What made you start this podcast?
One of my personal goals is to share meditation practice with as many people as humanly possible. This podcast is a recording of my live, weekly meditation class so the show allows me to share meditation with more people, more often!
What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?
One of my favorite things about having The Mindful Minute podcast has been the emails I receive from listeners. Over the last five years, I have learned a lot about what the biggest meditation hurdles are, what benefits feel the most tangible and accessible, and what tips work the most often.
It has helped me focus on the meditation teachings that matter the most.
What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?
I have loved every second of podcasting. It is amazing to feel a sense of connection with people all over the world. I have put out two shows a week every week for five years, and I find joy in every single episode. I get to talk about what I love, and I get to connect with people. There is no downside to that!
If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?
Oh this is such a hard question! I aim to make every episode useful and accessible so that anyone can start meditating at any time. If I had to pick, I would probably recommend you start with my Begin Again 3 part series which offers a great look at the fundamentals of meditation. You can listen to that series here.
