After a February full of premieres and popular seasons, with releases like Hello Tomorrow! produced by Apple TV Plus, or the sequel to Carnival Row available on Amazon Prime Video, we are ready to welcome the month of March.
And in the blink of an eye comes a new avalanche of audiovisual content that we welcome with open arms.
Among the most anticipated releases for the month of March are the premiere of Disney’s The Mandalorian, the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone and the launch of The CW’s Gotham Knights. In addition, we will enjoy the second installment of the controversial series Sex/Life and the electrifying release of the thriller The Power.
Whether you like streaming marathons or prefer weekly shows, these are the must-see series in the third month of the year.
The Mandalorian
Disney+ | Season 3 | Release date: Wednesday, March 01
After a two-year hiatus The Mandalorian returns for season three.
According to the series’ official Twitter account, The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on March 1, 2023. Pedro Pascal will return as Din Djarin and Grogu is back by his side. This is the way!
The second installment of the series ended with Luke Skywalker taking Grogu away for his Jedi training. After this closure, fans were left wanting to know more about the future of the series. Evidently, the duo had reached a turning point.
The third season is scheduled to pick up the story after the events narrated in The Book of Boba Fett (2021). The first trailer hints that the bounty hunter and Grogu will travel to Mandalore so that Din Djarin can redeem himself for his transgressions.
From the previews, it can be inferred that Djarin will try to make amends in some way for breaking the Mandalorian code. In addition, it is possible that Mando will attempt to reconcile with the last of his people.
It’s fair to say that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have created one of the best Star Wars television series to date. The Mandalorian is part of the Star Wars franchise, set after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983).
The first major signing for the third season of the series is Christopher Lloyd, the unforgettable Doc Brown from the Back to the Future saga. “Character details for his role are being kept locked in the trunk of a DeLorean, but it has been described as guest-starring in nature,” THR revealed in a publication.
Alaska Daily
ABC | Season 1 | Release date: Thursday, March 02
Created by Tom McCarthy, the celebrated director of the feature film Spotlight, the ABC series tells the story of Eileen Fitzgerald, a fierce journalist played by Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
The show follows Eileen Fitzgerald, a disgraced reporter who flees a high-profile life in New York and joins a small newspaper in Anchorage, Alaska. From there she does her best to redeem her reputation and rebuild her personal life.
In the city of Anchorage, Eileen soon teams up with local reporter Roz Friendly (Grace Dove) to investigate a pattern of disappearances and murders of indigenous women whose cases have been ignored by local authorities.
The series is inspired by a joint reportage investigation between the Anchorage Daily and ProPublica into the unsolved murders of several indigenous women. Not surprisingly, Tom McCarthy focuses on powerful journalistic cases for his audiovisual productions.
Alaska Daily premiered on October 6, 2022 on ABC. The final five episodes of the first season will air beginning March 2, 2023. This will allow viewers to watch the remainder of the first season uninterrupted for five consecutive weeks.
Joining Hilary Swank are Jeff Perry, Matt Malloy, Meredith Holzman, Grace Dove, Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park and Craig Frank.
Sex/Life
Netflix | Season 2 | Release date: Thursday, March 02
Sex/Life rocketed to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 when it premiered in June 2021, and viewers haven’t stopped talking about it since. The series is an adaptation of BB Easton’s novel 44 Chapters about 4 Men.
Sarah Shahi plays Billie Connelly, a suburban mother at a crossroads. The problem is that the protagonist longs for the independence and wild sex life she had before she got married. Throughout the first season, Billie becomes embroiled in a love triangle that threatens to turn her life upside down.
Viewers follow Billie through her mid-life crisis as she questions her marriage and the domestic life she leads. The protagonist constantly asks herself: Do you have to choose between passion and security, can you have it all?
The second season continues to explore female identity and desire. In a statement, series creator Stacy Rukeyser says: “That’s how we like Sex/Life — as a big, bold, unapologetic exploration of female desire, and a thrilling chance to tell the truth about our lives and the choices we all make in relationships, family, career and identity”.
Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos, Margaret Odette, Jonathan Sadowski and Li Jun Li return for the second season of Sex/Life on Netflix.
The new installment also features several additions, such as: Darius Homayoun, Wallis Day, Cleo Anthony, Craig Bierko and Dylan Bruce.
Gotham Knights
The CW | Season 1 | Release date: Tuesday, March 14
Gotham Knights is not to be confused with the 2022 video game of the same name. Gotham Knights is a superhero television series created by James Stoteraux, Natalie Abrams and Chad Fiveash for The CW.
This fictional series takes place in a world where Bruce Wayne is murdered. The story revolves around Batman’s adopted son, Turner Hayes, who has been framed for Wayne’s brutal murder.
In the midst of the chaos, Hayes must form a new fighting team to discover who killed his adoptive father and to confront the lawlessness that appears in the city after the vigilante’s death. As the name suggests, Gotham Knights is based on a team of Gotham heroes.
The first season of the show will consist of 13 episodes in total, and the series has not yet been greenlit for a second season.
The official synopsis for Gotham Knights is as follows:
Bruce Wayne is murdered and his adopted son forges an alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies. As the city becomes more dangerous, these mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors, known as the Gotham Knights.
The series stars Oscar Morgan, Navia Ziraili Robinson, Olivia Rose Keegan, Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara. Also part of the cast is Misha Collins (Supernatural) who will play Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, who is expected to be one of the main antagonists.
Among the directors for this season are: Danny Cannon (Pennyworth), Jeffery G. Hunt (Legacies), Elizabeth Henstridge (Superman & Lois), America Young (Blindspot), Lauren Petzke (Walker), Eric Dean Seaton (Titans).
Shadow and Bone
Netflix | Season 2 | Release date: Thursday, March 16
The time is finally approaching to return to the realm of Ravka and unravel the unresolved mysteries. And the fact is, the popular show Shadow and Bone, based on the novels by Leigh Bardugo, is returning for a second installment.
As the first season finale revealed, the fate of Alina (Jessie Mei Lei) and Mal (Archie Renaux) is uncertain and seemingly terrifying. The ruthless General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) emerges once again, determined to claim Alina’s magic and use it to seize the Ravkan throne. Faced with the growing threat, Alina and Mal will have to face all sorts of trials to conquer the darkness.
Given the new cast announcements, it seems likely that the second season will incorporate events from Siege and Storm and Six of Crows. In this installment, Alina hides her identity as the Sun Summoner. The Darkling, meanwhile, has come out of hiding and is once again trying to take control of everything.
“The most wonderful thing about season 2 is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of season 1,” showrunner Eric Heisserer told in December 2022. “There’s a lot of potential for them this season. They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way.”
The entire main cast of Shadow and Bone will return for the second season. This includes Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Danielle Galligan, Calahan Skogman.
Lewis Tan, Patrick Gibson, Anna Leong Brophy and Jack Wolfe join the cast. This season of Shadow and Bone will consist of eight episodes.
The Power
Prime Video | Season 1 | Release date: Friday, March 31
The Power is a science fiction series that explores what happens when girls receive an unexpected yet threatening power. It is a peculiar and curious concept that could once again give Amazon Prime a notable success.

The official synopsis states: “The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will. The series features a cast of remarkable characters from London to Seattle, Nigeria to Eastern Europe, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers’ collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world.”
Toni Collette stars as Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez. She is joined by actors Halle Bush, Ria Zmitrowicz and Auli’i Cravalho.
The Power will premiere on Prime Video on Friday, March 31, 2023, more than four years since it was first announced to be in the works.
