September is set to bring some of the most anticipated series of 2023, including Gen V, the new story of The Boys universe; The Continental, the electrifying prequel to the ferocious John Wick; and the premiere of The Changeling, based on the terrifying novel by Victor LaValle.
In addition, in the coming weeks we will be able to enjoy new seasons of big hits, such as the audacious program The Morning Show on Apple TV+, and the romantic drama Virgin River produced by Netflix. Last but not least, we will have the premiere of the fifth spin-off of The Walking Dead, which is centered on the character of Daryl Dixon.

Virgin River
Netflix | Season 5 | Release date: Thursday, September 7
The new season of Virgin River arrives on Netflix in September, it looks like it will be the most dramatic to date, as a natural disaster is about to hit the town.
The program, based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr, primarily follows the story of Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse who abandons her life in the big city after the death of her husband and decides to start over in the remote California town of Virgin River.
What’s next for Mel and Jack?
According to the official Netflix tagline: “Season Five of Virgin River features surprising new relationships, a shocking breakup, a difficult court trial, a heartbreaking goodbye, and a wildfire that threatens the town, bringing some people of Virgin River together while tearing others apart”.
The statement added that “Issues of motherhood push Mel to make a big decision about her future at the clinic while her pregnancy unexpectedly sparks an emotional connection to her past; To further prove himself to Mel, Jack squares off with some long-overdue confrontations — with his own demons and, of course, Charmaine.”
It has been officially confirmed that the fifth season will consist of 12 episodes and will be divided into two batches. The first 10 episodes will be released on September 7, while the last two episodes of the installment will be released on Thursday, November 30. Those two episodes are Christmas-themed.
Will there be a sixth season of Virgin River?
In May of this year, Netflix announced that the series had received an early renewal for season six.
The Changeling
Apple TV + | Season 1 | Release date: Friday, September 08
On September 8, the first three episodes of one of Apple TV+’s most anticipated fictions will premiere.
The Changeling is a dark fantasy horror series based on the novel by Victor LaValle, starring LaKeith Stanfield as Apollo Kagwa.
Here is the official synopsis for The Changeling:
“A fairy tale for grown-ups. A horror story, a parenthood fable and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed.”
The series, directed by Melina Matsoukas, revolves around the couple formed by Apollo and Emma, who live the most beautiful love story. But everything changes when Emma does something horrible after the birth of their first child.
The Changeling features incredible performances by Clark Backo, Victor LaVille, Adina Porter, Alexis Louder, Malcolm Barrett, LaKeith Stanfield, Jared Abrahamson and others.
After the initial broadcast, a new episode of The Changeling will be aired every Friday until October 13.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
AMC | Season 1 | Release date: Sunday, September 10
On September 10, fans of the zombie tragedy will be introduced to The Walking Dead’s fifth spin-off, titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
It’s no secret that Daryl Dixon has been one of the most popular characters in The Walking Dead franchise. Played by Norman Reedus, the former biker managed to rise to become a key player among the survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
According to AMC releases, the spinoff begins with Daryl somehow washed up on the shores of France. The former biker lands in foreign lands and struggles to figure out how he got there and why.
The six-episode drama follows Daryl’s journey through a broken but resilient France. The problem is that as he progresses on his path, his plan to return home becomes more complicated.
In July 2023, AMC announced that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere on both the cable channel and on its AMC+ streaming service on September 10, 2023 at 9:00 p.m.
The show has already been picked up for a second season, indicating the producers’ confidence in its success.
The Morning Show
Apple TV+ | Season 3 | Release date: Wednesday, September 13
The Morning Show drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon returns this fall for a third season.
Since its premiere on Apple TV+, The Morning Show quickly became a fan favorite and, in fact, ranked as the second most watched series on Apple TV+ after Ted Lasso.
Broadly speaking, the program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of the anchors, producers and staff of a fictional news program called “The Morning Show.” The fiction delves into the power struggles, personal ambitions and ethical dilemmas in the world of morning television.
The official synopsis for The Morning Show Season 3 reads:
“This season, the future of the network is thrown into question and loyalties are pushed to the brink when a tech titan takes an interest in UBA. Unexpected alliances form, private truths are weaponized and everyone is forced to confront their core values both in and out of the newsroom.”
In the new installment, we will see the return of many familiar faces. Along with Witherspoon and Aniston, Billy Crudup, Julianna Margulies, Greta Lee, Desean Terry, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman and Ruairi O’Connor will be back; an unexpected surprise is that actor Jon Hamm will join the cast.
The Continental
Peacock | Season 1 | Release date: Friday, September 22
John Wick is one of the most lauded, beloved and profitable action franchises in Hollywood. With three installments, the franchise has grossed more than $500 million worldwide.
Just now, the John Wick universe is set to expand with the prequel television series, titled The Continental, one of Peacock’s most important releases for September 2023.
The series will take place in 1975, decades before the events of the original films. The first season of The Continental will follow the backstory of how Winston Scott came to his position as manager of The Continental, a hotel and safe haven for assassins in New York City.
The official synopsis released by Peacock reads:
“The three-episode (90-minute) series will explore the origin of the iconic hotel for assassins in the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, who is drawn into the hell of 1970s New York to confront a past he thought he had left behind.”
The series will star Mel Gibson as Cormac, a mysterious figure linked to Scott’s past. Also in the cast Ayomide Adegun, Hubert Point-Du, Ben Robson, Jessica Allain and Nhung Kate.
Gen V
Amazon Prime | Season 1 | Release date: Friday, September 29
The Boys’ satirical superhero mayhem will get its first live-action spinoff this fall, which goes by the name Gen V. The series is the third in The Boys franchise, along with the main series and the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
Gen V focuses on the shenanigans that occur at a superhero college. According to Amazon’s official synopsis, the spinoff is “an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.”
The program stars Lizze Broadway and Jaz Sinclair. It also features performances by Sean Patrick Thomas, Shelley Conn, Asa Germann, Derek Luh, Chance Perdomo, Maddi Phillips, Marco Pigossi, London Thor, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Gen V will launch with its first three episodes on September 29. New chapters will air weekly until the end of the first season on November 3.
It is also worth noting that Amazon Prime’s original superhero series The Boys began airing in July 2019. The story follows a group of vigilantes who fight corruption and narcissistic superheroes who abuse their powers and put public safety at risk. The fourth installment of The Boys is scheduled to hit screens in 2024.
