The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12 from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The ceremony will air live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), and will be televised in more than 200 countries around the world. Jimmy Kimmel, who previously hosted the Oscars in 2017 and 2018, will again emcee the gala.

All Quiet on the Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front is a German-language anti-war film by director Edward Berger. Set in World War I, the feature tells the harrowing story of a naïve and idealistic soldier named Paul Bäumer, who enlists in the German army and is deployed to the trenches of France to fight.
There, he and his comrades experience firsthand how their patriotic euphoria turns to despair and fear as they do their best to survive.
All Quiet on the Western Front is based on the famous novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque published in 1929. This book has been considered one of the most honest and authentic descriptions of war in literature.
An adaptation of the novel made in 1930 by the filmmaker Lewis Milestone won two Academy Awards, including the equivalent of the Best film of the ceremony.

The Banshees of Inisherin
Written and directed by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin is a black comedy set in the 1920s on the coast of Ireland, specifically on the fictional island of Inisherin. The film dramatizes the painful experience of the breakup of a friendship.
The film follows Pádraic (Colin Farrell), a man who enjoys a simple, mundane existence. His life as he knows it is suddenly shattered when Colm (Brendan Gleeson), his best friend, decides he no longer wants to share anything at all with him.
The Banshees of Inisherin depicts the cycles of denial, grief and anger that Pádraic experiences because of Colm’s drastic change of heart. The film’s cast also includes Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.

Avatar: The Way of Water
Avatar: The Way of Water is the epic sequel to the 2009 science fiction film Avatar. The movie has surpassed the $2 billion mark worldwide, meaning that James Cameron has directed three of the four highest-grossing feature films in history.
The Way of Water returns viewers to the world of Pandora. In the sequel, Jake Sully and Neytiri form a family as the new leaders of the Omaticaya tribe. That family grows to include three biological and two adopted children.
When an ancient threat reappears, the Sully family members must wage a fierce war against the humans.
The Way of Water expands and embellishes the above story in surprising and engaging ways.

Elvis
Directed and written by Baz Luhrmann, Elvis is a biopic based on the life and career of music legend Elvis Presley (Austin Butler). Luhrmann tells the story of this icon from the perspective of Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), the singer’s enigmatic and corrupt manager for 20 years.
The film reflects on the man and the myth that was Elvis Presley. The production explores the influence of Gospel and Blues on the artist’s style and sound, the singer’s meteoric rise, the complicated relationship with his manager, and also explores his marriage to Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Butler’s stellar performance is powerful. The musical numbers are often mind-blowing, enhanced by Luhrmann’s style and lucidity.

Everything Everywhere All at Once
Daniels returns with one of the wackiest films in recent memory.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is a genre-defying mix of drama, surreal comedy, action, fantasy, martial arts cinema and science fiction. The story centers on a Chinese-American immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) who is being audited by the IRS and suddenly finds herself in a peculiar battle to save the multiverse.
Evelyn’s life changes irrevocably when she discovers she must connect with versions of herself in parallel universes to stop a powerful villain named Jobu Tupaki from destroying all that exists.
The film is written and directed by Daneil Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as “Daniels”). The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis and James Hong.
Everything Everywhere All at Once has the most nominations (11) at the 2023 Academy Awards.

Loosely based on Steven Spielberg’s childhood in post-World War II Arizona, The Fabelmans tells the story of Sammy Fabelman, a young boy who aspires to become a film director as he reaches his teens.
In 1952, Jewish couple Burt and Mitzi Fabelman take their young son Sammy to see his first film: Cecil B. DeMille’s The Greatest Show on Earth. From that moment on, Sammy discovers an irresistible passion for making home movies.
The Fabelmans is a semi-autobiographical drama that explores the power of film in the search for truth. The cast includes Gabriel LaBelle, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Judd Hirsch, Seth Rogen and Julia Butters.

Top Gun: Maverick
Tom Cruise reprises his role as audacious naval aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the highly anticipated sequel.
Written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie, Top Gun: Maverick accomplishes a difficult mission of its own. It is the continuation of a great story that began in 1986, but it is also a stand-alone story.
The film returns “Maverick” to Top Gun 30 years after the events of the original feature film. This time, Captain Pete “Maverick” is tasked with training an elite group of airmen for an urgent and dangerous mission in enemy territory. As the aviator returns to Top Gun, he must confront the ghosts of his past and settle unfinished business.
Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly and Glen Powell join Cruise in the cast, with Val Kilmer reprising his role as “Iceman” from the original film.

Triangle of Sadness
Written and directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund, this dark satire has many insights to offer on: empty opulence, the brutal inequality of capitalism, the superficiality of some supermodels and the vulgarity of oligarchs.
The film follows a celebrity couple on a luxury cruise ship. On the yacht, the wealthy guests indulge in all manner of extravagance, oblivious to the crew who work to satisfy their every need and whim. What at first seems like a glamorous and sumptuous experience soon turns into a calamity. The cruise ship sinks and leaves the survivors stranded on a deserted island fighting for their survival.
The lead pair is played by Charlbi Dean and Harris Dickinson. The cast of Triangle of Sadness also includes Woody Harrelson, Dolly de Leon and Vicki Berlin.
Triangle of Sadness is not for the faint of heart, or stomach. It is perfect for fans of films like The Menu, and Parasite.

Women Talking
Based on the 2018 book of the same name, Women Talking is a drama from director Sarah Polley.
It tells the story of women in an isolated, ultra-conservative Mennonite community who struggle to reconcile with their faith after learning that they are repeatedly sexually abused by the men of their colony. Women Talking is at once a plea, and a protest.
Eventually, the women must deliberate on how to move forward: whether to accept their treatment, leave the colony or fight back. The Canadian director’s balanced drama of aggression and secrets also explores the complex impact of religious abuse on the faithful.
Rooney Mara, Jessie Buckley, Claire Foy, Frances McDormand and Ben Whishaw headline the film’s cast.
