Everyone has high hopes for 2022 after a couple of pretty intense years, where people have been feeling stuck and we’ve all had some kind of loss. We don’t know what the next year will be like but, like every time the new year approaches, our mental scheduling starts to change, leaving the best plans for the first few weeks of the year.
It’s not a bad idea to accompany our resolutions, projects and expectations with great songs, after all, music is capable of restoring the soul. From the oldies that everyone loves, the unmissable Christmas songs, the ones that are ideal for dance time, and the songs that remind us that love is everywhere, here are ten songs that fit the positive thinking everyone is looking for these days.
Dance Like Nobody’s Watching, Yuna
A lyric about the power of dance and music that, besides having a strong beat to stand out on the dance floor, also has great content. Therefore, when our demons show up, heart is broken or tears are falling, just dance. This is definitely great therapy these days.
“Something tells me / That we’re gonna be alright / The trick is to keep / Moving your body”.
This Will Be Our Year, The Zombies
One of the most positive songs we can listen to all 2022 to help us overcome recent times. It reminds us that, even though the road has not been easy, it is important to thank those who were by our side. This Will Be Our Year belongs to the album Odessey and Oracle (1968) by the British band The Zombies.
“The warmth of your love’s / Like the warmth from the sun / And this will be our year / Took a long time to come”.
Grow, Satsang
With a rhythm that brings back a smile, the lyrics tell us that storms will make us thrive. The deep verse leads us down a path of honesty, joy and gratitude to life, even in those moments when challenges arise.
“I got air and water and love / Friends that I’m certain we’re gifted from above”.
Raise Your Glass, P!nk
A great song that encourages us to dance the whole night and celebrate the unique.
“So, raise your glass if you are wrong / In all the right ways / All my underdogs”.
P!nk’s huge energy never hurts in a playlist to make us feel better. Definitely a terrific beat and lyrics to welcome 2022.
999, Selena Gomez feat. Camilo
This year Selena explored her Latin heritage by releasing some songs in Spanish. In 999 they sing to a new love just before it starts, to that kind of electrifying crush that wants everything fast, and imagines anniversaries before the first memories are even made.
“I know you think of me / And your heart is moving / If you want to go a thousand / I’m at nine hundred and ninety-nine”.
New Year’s Day, Taylor Swift
A love song as the clock strikes 12:01 on the first day of the year. This soft melody contains promises of a couple’s future after leaving the New Year’s Eve party.
“But I stay when it’s hard or it’s wrong / Or we’re making mistakes / I want your midnights”.
Higher Power, Coldplay
Coldplay’s beat on this single can change your mood in a few seconds and tells us about the special powers people have with each other.
“This joy is electric and you’re circling through / I’m so happy that I’m alive/ Happy I’m alive at the same time as you”.
Merry Christmas, Elton John feat. Ed Sheeran
This song is the most recent release dedicated to Christmas, and includes a video that parodies other productions of the genre.
Elton and Ed wish everyone a Merry Christmas, inviting people to leave the bad times behind and live in the moment. Earnings from the song will go to Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and Elton John AIDS Foundation.
“I know there’s been pain this year / But it’s time to let it go / Next year, you never know / But for now, Merry Christmas.”
Countdown, Beyoncé
If we want to do the midnight countdown in a different way, this Beyoncé song is perfect.
“My baby is a ten / We dressing to the nine / He pick me up, we eight / Make me feel so lucky, seven / He kiss me in his six.”
The multi-genre song is part of the singer’s fourth studio album.
Follow You, Imagine Dragons
All about the importance of having someone to protect our backs following Imagine Dragons’ best rhythm. Probably in the easier moments of life it doesn’t seem so vital, but in the lowest hours it’s always good to have a reliable person close by.
“I’m always on your team, I got your back alright /Taking those, taking those losses if it treats you right”.
