Podcast Showcase: The Action Catalyst

The Action Catalyst

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to The Action Catalyst

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

Whether you’re just getting started, or have sat in the C-Suite for years, sooner or later, most of us hit a wall, a plateau, an obstacle.

The Action Catalyst podcast is designed for THIS moment, with actionable steps from top thought leaders in business, sports, and entertainment, and a brisk format perfect for on-the-go listening, which has earned it a place on numerous top podcast lists from Inc, Entrepreneur, Business Insider, and many more.

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

Anyone to whom complacency is an enemy.

This show isn’t about success or wealth or hustle. It’s about those moments when you KNOW you can do better, when you know there’s a little more gas left in the tank, but you just need that push to get there. Doesn’t matter if its closing a multi-billion dollar deal, or just doing your best at home.

What made you start this podcast?

Our parent company, Southwestern Family of Companies, is one of the oldest in the country, and has over 100 years of industry-best personal coaching and sales training.

We got tired of hogging this century plus of wisdom and wanted an outlet to share it more broadly.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

We’ve learned that leadership doesnt just mean business. You can be a true leader even if the only person you’re leading is yourself.

You can have possess the qualities of a CEO, of a 4-star general, of a governor or Olympian, even if you’re a stay at home mom, or a college student, or a normal working guy.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

It’s all love. Our hosts are genuinely curious; they’ve never met someone they’re not fascinated by. So for us, its a real treat to talk to absolutely everyone, and to elevate their stories.

We also LOVE it when guests contradict one another on subjects. Diversity of opinion is what we strive for, so if someone says one thing on an episode, and another guests says the opposite the very next week, then we know we’re getting closer to the truth.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

It’s a two-part episode, episodes 415 an6 416 with Matt Higgins. HIGHLY accomplished guy; youngest NYC press secretary during 9/11, NFL executive for 2 teams, guest shark on Shark Tank, executive fellow at Harvard Business School. Gives a super wild and wide-ranging interview going really deep and very vulnerable, surprisingly so.

Once they listen to part 1 they’ll absolutely want to hear part 2, and once they hear part 2, they’ll want to hear more episodes.

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

We’re often compared to Jordan Harbinger, How I Built This, and Entrepreneurs on Fire, but our hosts, on a personal level, also really like Smartless.

If people want to find you online, where can they do so?
