Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to FRIED – The Burnout Podcast.
Sum up your podcast in three sentences
FRIED – The Burnout Podcast is designed to increase burnout awareness, eliminate the shame around burnout, and normalize the burnout conversation. By sharing stories of people who have been to burnout and back, plus expert tips and actionable steps, FRIED makes an impact on lives all over the world every single day. The goal is simple but lofty – end burnout culture.
Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?
FRIED’s ideal listener is anyone and everyone who has ever experienced burnout. Our main demographics are professional women ages 28-44. The people who resonate most with FRIED are those who have experienced or are experiencing burnout.
What made you start this podcast?
I ruptured my achilles in the middle of 2019 and I went to bed praying, asking how I could make this time in bed useful – I woke up with the idea for FRIED. At the time, I was already a burnout coach and was halfway through writing my first book, so the original thought was to help people’s stories be released into the world and collect more research for my book at the same time. Since then, it’s grown into a passion project that keeps me super motivated because of all the great feedback.
What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?
Burnout is much more widespread than I imagined. I, like so many of my guests, assumed that I was alone in this process, but 100s of people have come forward requesting to be guests on FRIED so that they too can share their stories. I learned that this topic needs more time and more attention and that the world is more tuned into it than I originally imagined.
What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?
I love podcasting. I’m a talker by nature, so this is a great medium for me. I don’t love the editing and post-production processes. I can DO the tech, I just don’t have fun with it – so whenever I have the funds, I outsource that to someone who thrives on it!
If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?
My most listened to episode was the first one released and Ashley Rose and I talked about the intersection between burnout and trauma. I think this is something that we all need to learn and recognize because it helps us drop the self-judgment around burning out. It’s a powerful episode.
Which other podcasts do you love listening to?
I love Farnoosh Torabi’s So Money, and Armchair Expert.
