Podcast Showcase: Hacking Your ADHD

Podcast

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to Hacking Your ADHD.

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

Hacking Your ADHD is a podcast that explores ways that you can work with your ADHD. I focus on giving actionable advice in short 15 to 20-minute episodes so listeners can get through an episode in one session and not get overloaded with information. While I believe that medication is a great asset for those of us with ADHD, I also love the coaching mantra that pills don’t teach skills.

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

My ideal listener (and also who tends to love the show) is a late-diagnosed adult with ADHD – a lot of adults with ADHD don’t know where to turn to get the help they need to manage their ADHD.

There are so many aspects of how ADHD affects our lives and when we don’t spend the time to think or learn about them we tend to just accept that’s how life is. My show is aimed at shedding light on those ADHD things we may not know or think about.

What made you start this podcast?

I started this podcast as a way to solidify my learnings about ADHD and to expand upon them. I find the process of making episodes grounds me in the topic well and helps advance my ADHD journey.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

This is a hard question because I’ve learned so much about ADHD from doing the show, but I think what’s been made increasingly clear to me is that there is always more that I can learn.

I thought I had a good grasp of ADHD when I started the podcast but I’ve learned so much in the last 2 years.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

Podcasting is a blast, I’d really recommend trying it out to anyone thinking about it. My podcast is atypical in that most of my episodes are scripted but I do have some interviews. Both styles are great – with my scripted episodes I can really dive into topics and explore them in ways that I wouldn’t just on my own, while with interviews I get to expand on topics I might never have thought about.

For me the biggest hurdles are the editing process and then doing marketing. I’ve been very fortunate to have a lot of growth despite my missing marketing.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

I think one of my favorite episodes is Fighting Resistance (Part 1 & 2) – or my series on Energy Management.

While neither episode is specifically about ADHD I think they are both good places to start thinking about ADHD management and how to try and structure your day.

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

First I’ve got to shout out all the other podcasts in the ADHD reWired Podcast Network (ADHD reWired, ADHD Essentials, ADHD Diversified and The ADHD Friendly Lifestyle) – but I’m also a big fan of shows like Freakonomics, No Stupid Questions,  Hidden Brain, and Huberman Lab.

If people want to find you online, where can they do so?
