Podcast Showcase: Marketing and Finance Podcast

Headphones

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to Marketing and Finance Podcast

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

We talk about how to keep marketing simple in a complex world. It’s all about nailing your offer, setting your goals and planning your marketing activity. And we also talk about financial services topics too.

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

Marketing and Finance Podcast

Initially aimed at people working within UK Financial Services, the MAF Podcast now appeals to people working in any industry who maybe have a marketing role or responsibility, but not necessarily a marketing background.

What made you start this podcast?

I left “Big Corporate” after fighting against complexity and bloat for many years with a desire to help small businesses embrace digital marketing.

We’ve never had more access to more marketing tools at reasonable prices than we do now, but it can be complicated. I wanted to help people cut through the complexity and make this simple so they can concentrate on growing their businesses.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

One of the joys of being a podcast host is that each interview I record delivers knowledge and value for my listeners but also for me.

I’ve learned so much from my guests to deepen my knowledge of marketing, sales, and customer focus and I’m so grateful for their time and expertise.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

I love the interview process and meeting a wide diversity of people. I could outsource the editing but I love doing that as well.

The show notes is the least enjoyable part of the process and I outsource those. I do get inundated by “Guest Agencies” pitching people for interview – but they rarely do their homework and most pitches are no good. It’s a shame because people pay these guest agencies ridiculous amounts of money.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

The show became more of a general marketing podcast around episode 150 (when the finance content took more of a back seat) so that would be a good place to start. Check out some of my solo episodes after 150 to get to know me a little before listening to the interview shows.
