Podcast Showcase: Ministry of Ideas

Headphones

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to Ministry of Ideas.

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

Ministry of Ideas is a podcast that tells stories of the ideas that shape our world. From transhumanism, to apocalypticism, to meritocracy, the podcast helps you better understand why we believe the things we do, and possible ways of thinking our way out of our problems. It’s also fun!

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

Our ideal listener is curious, smart, interested in making the world better, but aware “progress” never happens in a straight line.

What made you start this podcast?

I wanted to listen to a smart podcast about history, culture and ideas and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. So I decided to try my hand.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

That the past is a strange, but fertile place and that our biggest enemy for living in the kinds of communities we most desire is our widespread belief in material determinism.

In other words, we wrongly believe nothing we do can make a difference.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

I love great conversations and I love making stories engaging and powerful.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

I’d start with Consumed because its about cannibalism and who isn’t interested in cannibalism?!

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

Manifesto, The Lonely Palette, Open Source, The Constant, Soonish, and all my fellow Hub and Spoke network shows.

If people want to find you online, where can they do so?
