Where the world thinks out loud

Podcast Showcase: Reverie True Crime

Headphones

Welcome to the next in the Podcast Showcase series, where we share podcasts with you in the words of the podcasters themselves. This time, we talk to Reverie True Crime

Sum up your podcast in three sentences

Reverie True Crime is a southern female hosted, story-telling formatted podcast. Every once in a while I do have guests come onto the show. From survivors, loved ones of victims, other podcasters, and professionals.

Who is your ideal listener? Who loves your show?

Reverie True Crime
Reverie True Crime

Anyone who doesn’t mind a southern accent and usually people who, as I do, fall asleep to true crime podcasts. People tell me they listen at nighttime and that’s a huge compliment since I also listen to my favorite podcasts at night.

The show is also detailed and that isn’t for everyone. It’s not for shock value. It’s for people to understand what these victims endured. I want to bring awareness to that and not let us forget what kind of monsters, who you’d never suspect, are in this world, and what people are capable of. It’s scary but it’s a reality.

What these innocent people went through is always challenging to write and talk about. However, very important, too.

What made you start this podcast?

I started podcasting as a hobby on my iPhone after binge-listening to a lot of true crime and paranormal podcasts. I had an idea and jumped head first into it without knowing what I was doing! I never expected this to turn into my passion.

What have you learned about your subject thanks to this podcast?

I have learned that the more light we shine on missing persons and unsolved cases the better. It’s amazing how listeners really do their homework after listening to those episodes and do what they can to help victims and their families. I learned how much victims can and do get overlooked.

I try my best to tell all of the story. If you want to hear about who the perpetrator was growing up and their life, their crimes, arrest, and trial, I go through that but I also go into as much detail about the victim(s) as humanly possible. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to find a lot, if any at times, information on victims. That definitely needs to change.

What has your experience of podcasting been? What do you love / hate about the process?

It has been difficult and wonderful. The difficult part has been learning the audio equipment on this journey. I’m still always fidgeting with different things after a recording. The whole editing and producing process is definitely not my forte but I am learning and growing all of the time.

What a lot of us don’t realize when we first start out is how much work it is being an independent podcaster. You truly have to love it and I do.

What I have loved most is all the incredible people I’ve met along the way. From the families, survivors, professionals, to so many podcasters I look up to. I’ve been extremely lucky to have made a lot of great friends through podcasting.

If someone wants to start listening to your podcast, which episode would you recommend they start with? Why?

I am really proud of two cases I’ve worked on: the Katie Palmer episode and the Amanda Pierce series. I worked with their families and to bring awareness to those two cases has been very important. Plus, these women were from the same county in Texas. That was a wild coincidence but has led me down a rabbit hole of alleged corruption there, too, which might be talked about on the podcast in the future.

If you like the show after listening to newer episodes, then I’d say venture into older ones if you dare. The audio and research was not great and I’ll be the first to admit it.

Which other podcasts do you love listening to?

I love Southern Fried True Crime, Trace Evidence, A Few Bad Apples, The Jury Room, How to Spot a Killer, Riddle Me That, FruitLoops: Serial Killers of Color, Beyond Bizarre True Crime, and so many more.
