Every Monday on Global Comment, we share Something Special you don’t want to miss. To fit with the six core pillars of the magazine, these will alternate between the themes of watch / listen / read / see / taste / place.
It will be something different every week, but it will always be about something worth seeing, hearing or watching, or a place worth visiting or a food worth tasting.
This week, do read this incredible long read by Rachel de Leon and Julia Lurie for Mother Jones about Taylor Cadle, now a young woman who, as a 12 year old, reported her father for rape and was not only disbelieved but prosecuted for her report.
Later, when the abuse recommenced, she – still a child – collected her own evidence.
Armed with hours of recorded interviews, police reports and state records stemming from her report eight years ago, Taylor simmers with fury about how Turnage [the police officer] handled her allegation. “I think from the beginning—from our first interview—she had already had her mind made up about me,” she says. “She made me feel like the monster.”
