September is just around the corner, and the major streaming platforms aren’t holding anything back! It’s safe to say that this month’s lineup won’t disappoint, ranging from the freshest comedy to the most unsettling suspense.
Netflix’s catalog in Latin America shines with major literary adaptations. In the coming weeks, we’ll see the highly anticipated premiere of Mal de Amores (Lovesick), a moving period drama set during the Mexican Revolution, as well as the chilling debut of Mis Muertos Tristes (My Sad Dead), a psychological horror miniseries inspired by the acclaimed works of Argentine author Mariana Enríquez.
Joining these new releases from the streaming service with the red “N” is the launch of Lalka (The Doll), a Polish production that adapts the classic novel by Bolesław Prus, considered a cornerstone of European literature.
At the same time, Apple TV+’s lineup is also getting a refresh with two highly anticipated titles: the suspense thriller Last Seen — directed by Christian Schwochow — and the zany project Brothers, an autofiction comedy in which Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson bring to the screen the real-life suspicion that they might be biological brothers.
Now, if pure action is your thing, Prime Video is premiering Neagley, the explosive spin-off of the Reacher series.

Mal de Amores (Lovesick)

Ángeles Mastretta’s cherished 1996 novel, Mal de Amores (Lovesick), comes to life on Netflix in a six-episode miniseries that explores the Mexican Revolution and women’s autonomy.
Directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta — the author’s daughter — alongside Humberto Hinojosa, this romantic drama is set in the turbulent Mexico of the early 20th century. The story follows the determined and independent Emilia Sauri (Renata Vaca), who defies the strict gender roles of her time to pursue her true calling: medicine.
Over the course of its seven episodes, Emilia’s heart is torn by a complex romantic dilemma between two very different men: Daniel Cuenca, a passionate and adventurous revolutionary from her childhood, and Antonio Zavalza, a mature doctor seeking peace amid the turmoil of war. “The series intertwines the political awakening of a country at war with the personal struggle of a woman determined to preserve her freedom, her dreams, and her right to love without family or social constraints,” according to its official description.

Next Wednesday, September 9, Apple TV+ premieres the thriller Last Seen. Starring Patrick Brammall and based on Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher, the series follows Ian Ridley, a former detective haunted by his daughter’s disappearance.
Its synopsis reads as follows:
“Police detective Ian Ridley’s (Brammall) life fell apart 11 years ago when his young daughter Maggie disappeared without a trace. Now working as a police dispatcher, the only thing that has kept him going is his implacable refusal to accept that she might be gone forever. When he receives a distress call from a teenage girl he is certain is Maggie, he will stop at nothing to find her and reunite his broken family, whatever the cost.”
Following the premiere, the rest of the season will be released weekly every Wednesday until the series finale on October 7.
Neagley

Attention Jack Reacher fans: The fan-favorite crime and action series officially has its first spin-off.
Neagley focuses on the character of Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), a private investigator in Chicago and Reacher’s (Alan Ritchson) former military partner. In this new series, she leads an intense quest for justice after discovering the suspicious death of a loved one.
The official logline cautions:
“When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley sets out on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”
This new project expands the Jack Reacher literary universe created by Lee Child. Alongside Maria Sten, the series introduces an all-new cast that includes actors such as Greyston Holt, Jasper Jones, Adeline Rudolph, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman. But don’t worry, the essence remains intact: to maintain the connection to the original story, and Alan Ritchson has been confirmed for a special guest appearance.
Neagley premieres on Prime Video on September 16, and all eight episodes will be available to watch immediately.
Lalka (The Doll)

Netflix Poland brings Lalka (The Doll), to the screen, a series adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s literary classic. The original book is considered one of the most important works in the country’s history thanks to its far-reaching narrative, which addresses everything from commerce and social ambition to love in times of war.
Set in the late 19th century, the story offers an intimate portrayal of the impact and consequences of the failed Polish January Uprising of 1863.
The official plot summary states:
“Driven by fierce ambition, Stanisław (Tomasz Schuchardt) is determined to climb the social ladder, and his obsessive infatuation with Izabela becomes a gateway to the world he longs to conquer. Izabela (Sandra Drzymalska), in turn, strives to break free from the rigid confines of aristocratic order and define her own place in a rapidly changing society. The powerful bond between them is caught between a deep class divide, obsession, a longing for freedom, and the seductive power of wealth.”
The series is directed by Paweł Maślona, who also co-wrote the episodes alongside Paweł Demirski and Jagoda Dutkiewicz.

The story is inspired by a real suspicion that Harrelson himself revealed in 2023, when he shared that his father and McConaughey’s mother had been romantically involved in the past.

This fantasy horror production is an adaptation that combines the plot of the short story of the same name with elements from three other stories by the author: “Julie” (“Julie”), “Un lugar soleado para gente sombría” (“A Sunny Place for Shady People”), and “Cuando hablábamos con los Muertos” (“Back When We Talked to the Dead.”)
Veteran actress Mercedes Morán leads the cast as Ema, a woman who lives with the constant whispers of the dead. Although she has spent decades trying to ignore this gift, her resistance crumbles when she welcomes her niece into her home.
The official synopsis reads:
“Ema, a 60-year-old doctor, can see and hear the dead. She calls them “presences” and has lived her entire life avoiding letting this gift connect her with the suffering of others.
