Forget Hollywood classics like Pretty Woman or 10 Things I Hate About You for a moment, because 2026 is the perfect time to give Mexican romance a chance. Whether you’re single or happily coupled up, who doesn’t love a fun love story?
Mexican cinema may not be widely recognized for its romantic comedies. But the landscape has changed dramatically in recent decades, driven in large part by the rise of streaming platforms.
Today, the Aztec country’s industry is strongly committed to stories that celebrate life and love, striking a perfect balance between witty scripts, endearing family humor, and picturesque locations that showcase Mexico’s vibrant identity.
What makes these productions special is their unique “flavor”: unlike Hollywood formulas, Mexican romance never happens in isolation. It involves noisy families, colorful traditions, and that Latin American ability to laugh at their own misfortunes.
Below, we share our selection of the six best Mexican romantic comedies of recent years. Our selection includes warm, chaotic, and heartfelt stories.

“Contigo en el futuro” – 2025 (“With You in the Future”)
Available on: Prime Video
Sandra Echeverría and Michel Brown star in Contigo en el Futuro, a Mexican romantic comedy that explores second chances through an ingenious journey through time.
Directed by the talented Roberto Girault (El Estudiante), we meet Carlos (Brown) and Elena (Echeverría), a married couple worn down by routine and emotional ups and downs. Almost immediately, it becomes clear that divorce is imminent.
But everything takes a turn when an irreverent and eccentric Cupid (Mauricio Barrientos) offers them an unusual proposal: to travel back to 1994, the year they met, with the mission of convincing their younger selves to avoid each other.
The plot becomes a fascinating emotional paradox. To escape the pain of the present, the protagonists must sabotage their past, without realizing that trying to erase their mistakes would also eliminate the most valuable things in their lives.
Beyond the temporal entanglement, the film suggests that the real journey is not about altering yesterday, but about rediscovering the will to fight for what matters today. Contigo en el Futuro is a reminder that, in order to save our tomorrow, we must first make peace with our past.
“Mesa de Regalos” – 2025 (“The Wedding Registry”)
Available on: Disney+
Directed by Noé Santillán-López (Veinteañera, Divorciada y Fantástica) and written by Juan Carlos Aparicio, Mateo Stivelberg, and Daniela Richeres, Mesa de Regalos follows two best friends who, overwhelmed by their financial problems, decide to execute a master plan: fake a wedding to keep the money from the gift table.
The idea of our protagonists, Nicolás (José Eduardo Derbez) and Antonia (Cassandra Sánchez-Navarro), is as cynical as it is audacious: announce a sudden romance, organize the ceremony, and leave Nicolás standing at the altar, trusting that the scandal will distract the guests from claiming their gifts back.
However, between fake banquets and real preparations, the line between scam and affection begins to blur. What starts as a desperate fraud turns into a fun journey of self-discovery where love could be the only unplanned guest.
If you’re looking for a story to laugh at and question social pressures, this is your best bet.
“Ahí te encargo” – 2020 (“Dad Wanted”)
Available on: Netflix
Ahí te Encargo is one of Netflix’s most successful romantic comedies, starring Mauricio Ochmann and Esmeralda Pimentel. The plot revolves around an advertising creative who dreams of being a father, while his wife, an up-and-coming lawyer, does not share the same plan. Everything changes when he impulsively decides to take care of a stranger’s baby without telling her.
Unlike many conventional comedies, here the roles are reversed: it is the husband who has the paternal instinct, while she is focused on her professional success. Beyond the situational humor generated by the chaos of secretly caring for a baby, the film offers a very current portrait of couples who are not on the same page about parenthood.
In the end, the film reflects on the commitment, sacrifice, and emotional maturity necessary to balance personal dreams with life as a couple.
“Tod@s caen” – 2019
Available on: Netflix
Martha Higareda and Omar Chaparro, who already showed their spark in the box office hit No manches Frida, join forces again in Tod@s caen, a comedy that humorously dissects the rules of the game of modern conquest.
The plot introduces us to Adán (Chaparro) and Mía (Higareda), two self-proclaimed “experts in seduction” who, after suffering disappointments in the past, have designed foolproof manuals for making anyone fall in love without risking their hearts. Convinced of their romantic superiority, they encourage their friends to follow their strict tactics, until fate brings them together in a bar, and they begin a war of seduction strategies.
In this acerbic and hilarious battle of the sexes, Adán and Mía immerse themselves in a dangerous game where the golden rule is relentless: the first to show their feelings loses.
However, amid entanglements and absurd situations, the film reminds us that genuine love inevitably requires the courage to let down our guard.
“Solteras” – 2019 (“Ready to Mingle”)
Available on: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video
Solteras, directed by Luis Javier Henaine (Tiempos Felices), follows Ana (Cassandra Ciangherotti), a woman obsessed with getting married whose life takes a turn when her long-time boyfriend ends their relationship just as she was expecting a marriage proposal.
Under social pressure that dictates that marriage is the greatest female achievement, Ana decides to enroll in a specialized course for single women after seeing her cousin’s success. At this academy, an instructor teaches them “tricks” and textbook strategies to attract a man and manipulate a proposal.
However, Solteras is not a conventional rom-com. Unlike comedies that idealize marriage, the film uses humor to satirize the obsession with “getting the ring.”
Although it begins as a frantic search for a partner, it evolves into a profound lesson in self-love, inviting acceptance of diverse lifestyles.
“Todos Queremos a Alguien” – 2017 (“Everybody Loves Somebody”)
Available on: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video
Directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta (Nadie nos va a extrañar), this film ingeniously explores the complexity of bicultural families and the weight of second chances.
Todos Queremos a Alguien focuses on Clara Barrón (Karla Souza), a woman who seems to have it all: a successful career in Los Angeles and a family that adores her. However, her unfinished business is love, as she lives stuck in the memory of an old boyfriend.
The plot takes a turn when, to avoid the scrutiny of her nosy family during a wedding in Mexico, Clara persuades her colleague Asher (Ben O’Toole) to fake a romantic relationship. However, the plan falls apart with the unexpected appearance of Daniel (José María Yazpik), the great love that marked her past.
Sooner than she imagines, Clara will find herself at a crossroads: seek refuge in the nostalgia of what was or take a chance on the promise of a new beginning.
